Happy Gurgles

I painted the outer ring of the intestine red. The ring next to the red ring is neon orange ring. Next to the neon orange ring is a lighter neon orange ring. Next to the lighter neon orange is a neon yellow ring which in the very middle. In the red ring I painted green pieces of food digesting. In the neon orange ring I painted the food light blue. In the lighter neon orange I painted the food a dark blue. In the neon yellow ring I painted the food purple. In the green food the bubbles are a light green. In the light blue food the bubbles are a lighter blue. In the dark blue food the bubbles are lighter blue. In the purple food the bubbles are a lighter purple. I painted the highlights on the bottom of all the bubbles. I painted shadows on the top of all the bubbles. I put a white dot in the center of each bubble for shine. This painting is called Happy Gurgles. I finished this painting on July 10, 2012. This painting reminds me of the solar system. The colors are complementary colors meaning they are opposite of the color wheel. I painted this picture of gurgles because Del wanted me to use my imagination on what gurgles looked like.This painting only two sessions because it's on a very small canvas.

MT Rushmore in the moonlight

I sketched in Mt Rushmore but it took awhile because of all the details. I painted the sky blue two times. I painted George Washington's face a medium blue for the dark side on the side of his face. His hair is dark blue with the lower half medium blue. I painted all the presidents' eye a super dark blue. I painted Jefferson next to George in shades of medium and dark blues. The left side of his face and nose is dark blue and his right side is medium blue.  Lincoln had similar shades of the darker blues as Jefferson did. Lincoln has medium blue for his left side of his face. Under George's face the area is lighter than the light part of his face. Under Lincoln's face the  area is dark with some medium blue blended in some spots. I repainted half of the painting to make it intense. Very light blue is where the moonlight is hitting the faces. Light blue area is a little darker blue. Medium blue is for the lightest shaded parts of the faces. The dark blue blue is for the darker shades that aren't in the moonlight. The darkest blue is part of the face that don't get any light at all. Paula showed me how to paint almost white blue on the lightest parts of the faces.  I painted just mainly the darker areas of Teddy Roosevelt's and Abraham Lincoln's faces. Lighter medium blue is the lightest dark area. Medium blue is the middle of the darkest blues. The dark blue is the shades like the eyelids, lips, etc. The darkest blue is where there is no light shining on the areas like the eyes and lips. Then I painted whitish blue highlights mainly on the foreheads or where the light is shining on the most. Then I painted a moon and stars in the sky. The darker side of the moon is light blue. The light side of the moon has whitish blue highlights. This is called Mt Rushmore in the moonlight. I finished this painting on July 7, 2012. This painting is monochromatic meaning one color. It just different shades of blues. This painting sticks out because the highlights against the darker shades.
